Digit—
In mathematics, digits are symbols that are used to write numbers.
The number of these digits are ten which ranges from 0 to 9 which are as follows—
0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ,8 , 9
Only these digits are used to write any number.
Number —
A number is formed by combining the digits. The number which consists of one digit is called a single digit number which has two digits is called two digits number. See the following example—
2 ,5 ,3 etc — single digit numbers
43 , 55 , 86 etc— two digit numbers
143 , 455 , 786 etc — three digit numbers
Kinds of Number—
The numbers are as follows-
- Natural Number—
The numbers which are used to count things are called natural numbers. Natural numbers range from 1 to infinity.
1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ,7 , ......∞
- Whole Number—
If 0 is also included in the natural numbers, then all these numbers (from 0 to infinity) are called whole numbers.
0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ,7 , ......∞
- Integer Number—
The combined collection of all positive and negative numbers are called integers.
Or
All whole numbers and negative numbers are called integers.
.....-4, -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3, +4.....
- Even Number—
In natural numbers, the numbers which are divisible by 2 are called even numbers.
2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 , 12, ......∞
- Odd Number—
In natural numbers, the numbers which are not divisible by 2 are called odd numbers.
1 , 3 , 5 ,7 , 9 , 11 , 13 ,......∞
- Composite numbers—
The numbers which are divisible by any number other than 1 are called composite numbers.
or
Numbers which have factors other than 1 are called composite numbers.
